The third in the sequence of 4T Thieves’ EP releases this time is Red Sun, which arrived on August 26th, 2018 (Bandcamp version). Let’s go!
This EP contains six tracks, and two of them come without drum beats: the untouchable ambient silhouette in “Shadows in the Sea,” and the slightly rough afternoon air vibration in “Evening Approaching.” The opener “Day Break” answers the ambiguity of the cover image—which I indeed thought was a sunrise, not a sunset—and is the only track that features an edited human voice sample, though the music still feels more atmospheric than Humanoid. Perhaps the track that can be paired with that EP is “The Storm.” I think this one fits perfectly as background music for news segments, including weather forecasts. Yes, absolutely.
Then comes the darkening sky, when the sun has traveled to the other side of the Earth, but 4T Thieves doesn’t forget it. “Light of the Moon” will accompany your rest with a fairly relaxed electronica delivery. However, “The Midnight Hour” does not follow that mood; instead, it feels like needles poking your head through its sharp-sounding drum beat. Well, perhaps the intention is to convey how many people find themselves awake in the middle of the night because of things like nightmares, stress, or—yes—headaches.
Once again, I would still pick this EP over Humanoid, even though it ends with a headache and/or overthinking. Lol… Specifically, the standout tracks for me are “Shadows in the Sea” and “Light of the Moon.”
