Getting Japanese music for free is incredibly difficult, even on Bandcamp. So, being able to listen to Nerdneko like this is a stroke of good luck.
The first interesting point is the resemblance of the intro track "入道雲" (Cumulonimbus), which reminds me of the intro to "Learned Behavior" by the Denver-based emo band 11;45, released back in 2019. Then, there are faint traces of blackgaze/post-black metal at the beginning of "五月の海" (The Sea of May), which serves as a moment for Hatsune Miku's vocals to try out more sustained notes, whereas "Nostalgia" stands out as the harshest track. "海岸線 (Coastline)" is the first piano instrumental track I sampled here, and it immediately and very clearly made it onto my favorites playlist. The next two tracks didn't really do much for me, so I just skipped them.
Well, lovers of shoegaze—especially the Japanese variety like Yuragi, My Dead Girlfriend, or the famous ones out there—should definitely give Nerdneko a spin.
