Genre: Atmospheric black/sludge metal/post-hardcore/skramz
9 Lagoons of Death makes their debut with 10 tracks spanning 27 minutes. The production quality and core elements are drawn from atmospheric black metal, sludge metal, and hardcore/screamo. Consequently, this combination creates a poignant, somewhat raw atmosphere with a dynamic tempo that isn't always relentlessly heavy. That said, you might need to turn up the output volume to get a better listening experience.
Now, since there are no additional liner notes about this album on Bandcamp, I take the name "Ateş" in three of the titles—"You Wanted Me", "Buried Me", and "Empty Me"—to be the name of a guest vocalist, as it sounds like a woman's voice. However, the actual meaning behind it might be something else entirely.
Personally, it didn't quite click for me despite how agonizing it sounds, except for the latter half of "Seething from Pain". It would be much better suited for fans of typical post-hardcore/screamo, keeping in mind that the production still has that distinct DIY character. I think it also seems still related to Sadness and Life.
